Less children in Italy, the fall-photographed by Istat – The Republic

ROME – fewer children in Italy. In 2015 have been registered 485.780 children, almost 17 thousand less than in 2014. It detects the Istat reporting as compared to 2008, the new-born are less 91 thousand. But in reality, the situation is even worse. In the first six months of 2016, in fact, the new-born, a decline of 6%. The triple compared to a year ago.

As well as those born of parents, both foreigners, who in 2015 are 72.096, almost three thousand less than in 2014. In the slight decline in their share of total births (14.8%).

Fewer children in marriages. The born to unmarried parents (almost 140 thousand in 2015), are growing and represent 28.7% of the total number of births exceeding the 31% in the Centre-North, almost a child of three. Those born within marriage continue to fall sharply in 2015 are 346.169 (almost to 120 thousand in just 7 years)
The decline is in part due to a strong decrease in marriages registered in the same period (about 52 thousand wedding in less between 2008 and 2015). For the second year in a row drops as the number of births with at least one foreign parent: I’m almost 101 thousand in 2015, equal to 20.7% of the total births at the level of the national average (about 29% in the North and only 8% in the south).

Mothers over 40. 8.3% of those born in 2015 has a mother at least 40 years, 10.3% are under 25 years of age. The postponement of motherhood is very pronounced for mothers in italy: 9.3% has more than 40 years, a rate which exceeds that of the mothers under25. The average number of children per woman falls to 1.35 (1,46 in 2010). Italian women have on average 1.27 children (1,34 in 2010), the towns resident foreign 1,94 (2,43 in 2010).
