ROME (Reuters) – Greece is negotiating with the International Monetary Fund to accept a delay in the repayment of debt on the model of what Athens has already proposed to the EU countries creditors.
He said the Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis in an interview with the Republic.
“Even with the IMF we started the negotiations. I do not see why it should not accept a delay, as he always does in such cases, at least at the end of the year,” the minister said.
A first tranche of 1.9 billion Fund loans to Greece expiring on 15 March and a second tranche of the same amount on June 15th.
The proposed Athens to IMF and EU countries “provides for the replacement of the debt with new bonds to market interests. Today, very low, with a clause: begin the return in full when it will be restarted in Greece solid growth”, reiterated Varoufakis.
“We can do it without missing a balanced budget and funding while development initiatives as long as you are free from the burden of the interest.”
