Regeni, the autopia reveals that he was tortured for days. In Rome summit between Italian and Egyptian judges – Il Sole 24 Ore

On the day of the summit between the Italian judicial authorities and Egyptian new details emerge from the autopsy on the body of the young Italian researcher Giulio Regeni, disappeared in Cairo on January 25 and found dead on February 3 ‘highway post at Alexandria. On Julius body we were found signs of severe torture, perpetrated by a hand “expert on torture.” A detail that had already emerged in recent months and which had raised hypothesis of an involvement of Egypt’s security apparatus.

The summit in Rome
Today begins in Rome two days that will put around the same table Egyptian and Italian magistrates for eight months seeking the truth about the death of the young Friuli found dead on the road between the Egyptian capital and Alexandria and body obvious signs of violence.

Julius Regeni, the Friuli researcher tortured and killed in the Egyptian capital

At the top will participate for Italy, the chief prosecutor of Rome, Giuseppe Pignatone, and substitute Sergio Colaiocco. For the Egyptians will be present Attorney General, Nabil Ahmed Sadek, and four magistrates team handling the case.

The Italian magistrates await answers from Cairo colleges and fundamental is the exchange of documents related to requests arrive via rogatory beginning with data on cell phone. The theme was ground breaking in the previous meeting, and also in the weeks following the meeting, from Cairo had emphasized the impossibility, for “security reasons”, to provide the data requested from Rome and considered essential to the investigation.

the different times of business and diplomacy

for their part, the Italian magistrates handed over to their Egyptian counterparts the latest technical checks carried out on the contents of the pC and some Giulio Regeni information on his frequent visits and aspects of his private life in the period between the end of December 2015 and 4 January 2016, when the boy did return to Italy for the holiday season.

cards from Cambridge
Meanwhile the University of Cambridge will send to Rome prosecutors documents on Julius Regeni. Material which, however, is useless for the investigation into the murder of the researcher. It is only the documents which prove that Julius held a job for the University, but did not go into detail on the type of study. The request for documents was made in June last year by prosecutors in Rome. However, the University had replied that the “study of Regeni is confidential.”

It is, therefore, the question on the reasons of Cambridge refusal to provide information on the study of Julius.

An Inconvenient research, witnessed some British fellow Italians investigators, around which – is the investigative hypothesis – would arise the discontent of Egyptian security apparatuses. This is why the information on that work could help the investigators to clarify the motive of the kidnapping and murder.

The role of the security apparatus
The thread that binds Egyptian intelligence with the case Regeni is the head of the independent trade union Cairo, Muhammad Abdallah. A key figure in the investigation on the kidnapping and murder of the young researcher, who for the Cambridge universtà was studying these organisms, apparently thwarted by Al Sisi government. According to the findings, Abdallah allegedly linked to Egypt’s security services, to which – is the hypothesis – would spend about Julius and uncomfortable research that was taking place.

Renzi” on Regeni confirm full commitment to the truth. ” Giulio’s mother: “Just commemorations, now shares’

Investigators have identified frantic phone calls between Abdallah and Regeni and others with dubious utilities on which they are focusing the investigation. The track of the Prosecutor of Rome, therefore, points to the Egyptian security apparatuses. This hypothesis is also confirmed in the torture inflicted on the 28-year old body: untold signs committed by a “professional of torture” said the autopsy. The chief prosecutor Giuseppe Pignatone and substitute Sergio Colaiocco follow a track in some emails sent by Julius in Hoda Kamel, the Egyptian center for economic rights. Letters in which presented the draft study on the trade unions and funding for over 10 thousand pounds that was waiting by the British foundation Antipode. Julius wanted to donate money to the union, of its agreement with Abdallah. But the operation jumps. By law, the union can not have foreign funding. In the email to Kamel she tells of a clash had with Abdallah. A few days after the death of Julius the union in an interview states that Regeni wanted information and that he had tried to buy with money the Antipode foundation. From this exchange of emails, the investigators assume there was a “betrayal” from within the unions. The hypothesis is that Abdallah had passed information to third parties on the studies ‘uncomfortable’ the researcher, passing it for what it was: a spy with the objective of financing the independent trade unions to encourage them for the clash with Al Sisi. According to information gathered, the Abdallah himself would have close relations with the Egyptian security apparatus which, among other things, would have hired a number of street vendors (independent trade union) as informants.
