Holland’s diktat: ban from 2025 and diesel cars with petrol – The Republic

In the Netherlands, are pressing the accelerator. But not to run faster by car but to hasten its demise. Or at least most of what we bought and driven to date. Exactly why the Hague government has just started the legislative path to get to prohibit, by 2025, the sale of cars with petrol or diesel power.
The measure is supported by the Labour PvdA party, which has got – despite strong opposition from the Right – a first approval in Parliament. To support the Labour initiative, the deputies of the Liberal Democratic, the green GroenLinks and ChristenUnie party are also side by side.

It should be remembered that in 2013 the Dutch government had signed an energy agreement with forty independent organizations to promote green initiatives in energy, thermal insulation of buildings and the CO2 reduction. In December, however, along with four other countries and eight states of North America he had formed the Alliance for Zero-Emission Vehicle arrive until 2050 at the exclusive sale of eco-friendly cars.

So, a very clear path for a country which, moreover, has the lowest share of diesel cars in Europe (27.1%) and where they sell more than triple of electric cars compared to Italy, the other well-sized market. A path that is close to that of France, determined to get rid from Paris diesel cars even since 2020. A road will be ready to follow in other European countries? Given the current climate is not entirely excluded …
