“The courageous decision of the greek people, in unprecedented conditions, is not a choice of breaking with Europe but is the choice to return to the values that underlie the EU. It is a clear message: we must respect the choice of our people. ” So the premier greek Alexis Tsipras defended the latest developments in its management of the crisis in Greece in a speech at the European Parliament, where he was received with great enthusiasm and applause from some members (mostly of the right and left of the hemicycle) and also booed by others.
“My homeland has become an experimental laboratory of austerity, but the experiment was not successful. We demand an agreement with our allies to take us straight out of the crisis, who do see light at the end of the tunnel, “continued the leader greek. “The money given to Greece have never reached the people, the money was given to rescue European banks and the Greek”, attacked Tsipras, claiming, however, that the fight against unemployment is the prime objective of its proposal. “We want to launch a debate about the sustainability of government debt, there can be no taboos between us to find the solutions they need,” he said, announcing today that the greek government will send a request to the European Fund Save States (ESM), “But the government’s proposal for the greek debt restructuring is not designed to put extra weight on European taxpayers,” Tsipras clarified.
Before the European parliament, the greek prime minister has recognized the tremendous responsibility of past governments in the current Greek crisis, which is certainly not of the European partners. “I am among those politicians who say that the problems in their homeland are the fault of foreigners: For many years, Greek governments have created a state patronage, have fueled corruption in politics and business and enriched only a certain slice of the people: 10 % of the people holds 56% of the country’s wealth; and this huge inequality coupled with austerity programs, instead of correcting, has burdened the crisis. ”
But, at this point, is the reasoning of the head of the government of Athens, Greece and the European institutions have a responsibility to find in the coming days “a compromise that avoids a historical rupture”: the Greek crisis is actually “a European problem for which need a European solution.”
In any case Tsipras said he was “confident” about the possibility of reaching a compromise solution within the week, or by the date Eurogroup place to prevent the exit of Greece from the euro. “I am confident – the premier said in a speech at the European Parliament greek – that within two or three days we will be able to meet its obligations in the interests of Greece and also the Eurozone.”
