The detainee is an Albanian sentenced to six years for conspiracy, child prostitution, domestic violence and perjury.
The decree, written specifically to avoid sanctions in Strasbourg, which has repeatedly threatened to penalize ‘Italy for the condition in which they live prisoners and that “introduces a reduced sentence of one day in prison for every 10 days in inhuman conditions, or compensation of EUR 8 per day if the detention has already been completed,” not was welcomed by all the prisons in the same way, as reported by the Corriere della Sera.
While in Padua the request of the Albanian has been accepted, it was not so for others condemned in some cities such as Milan and Naples, working instead on Disposal of instances of “early release”, or Vercelli, which has adopted a restrictive line that leads to many declarations of ineligibility.
The judge of the Venetian city has even adopted the dual solution of the decree: pecuniary and off the sentence, giving 10 days for reduction of sentence remaining (missing 100 days) – Albanian is in freedom from 2 September – and for days prior to detention instead applied the compensation (601 days for 8 euro).
