Rome, May 17 – ‘The International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia is an opportunity to reflect on the centrality’ of the dignity ‘human and the right of every person to take the life without discrimination’. It ‘s the premise of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, in his statement on the occasion of the world day against homophobia and transphobia. ‘The full realization of this freedom’, which must belong to everyone, regardless of sexual orientation of the people, – said the head of state – and ‘essential to the building of a legal system that guarantees full respect of fundamental rights and constitutes a pillar of civilized coexistence, in application of the principle of equality enshrined in Article. 3 of the Constitution. The ability ‘to reject all forms of intolerance is measured maturity’ of our society ‘. Intolerance in fact rooted in prejudice and must be countered through information, knowledge, dialogue, respect ‘. For Mattarella ‘The non-acceptance of diversity’ begets violence and we must be tackled with determination. E ‘unacceptable that the sexual orientation of the people constitutes the pretext for insults and aggressions.
